Very interesting post… thanks. I think Zopa could become REALLY interesting during a credit crunch… If banks aren’t prepared to lend then private lenders will be much in demand…

Yes – it will be very interesting indeed to see if this becomes a growth driver for Zopa and its ilk.

Great keynote yesterday, Antony! You had us buzzing afterwards. Will be interesting to see whether Zoba lives up to the OMG Index nod. Seems to have plenty of momentum behind it.
All the best,

Thanks, Bernhard – I really enjoyed. Wish I could have been there all day…

Hey Antony, good to have you blogging again :-)
[Antony]What’s making us say OMG right now? Well, a lot of things, but the most dazzlig of them all is the boldness of the idea and the sheer potential for radical change in how companies communicate with individuals that is Project VRM. When people own more of their own data and share it with companies on terms they find agreeable all sorts of amazing disruption will occur
I think you’ve hit the nail on the head when you say ‘potential’. VRM is one of those concepts that, as soon as you hear it, you wonder why nobody has already done it. It could, and I hope will, turn everything on its head, but it’s a way off.
I wrote about it a while ago when I was trying to get my head around OpenID. http://blog.hackbash.com/2008/04/29/openid-and-vrm-can-you-be-bothered/ One commenter made this point, which seems to sum it up nicely:
[Joe Andrieu] Frankly, VRM and Identity is at about the same stage as the web was in 1992 or 1993. We have a working protocol and format (mostly) but we don’t yet have an accessible mainstream product to demonstrate the potential. In the next year or two, keep an eye open for the equivalent of Mosaic and/or Netscape. And then start looking for the Yahoo!s, Amazons, and Googles.
[Joe Andrieu] That’s when things will get really interesting.

That’s a nice analogy from Joe Andrieu – cheers, Simon…
I’m hearing from people working on building those things right now. Can’t wait to see them…
