Netvibes may accelerate widgetisation of the web

Sounds like Netvibes could spur a whole load more development around widgets by doing the decent and sensible thing and making everything more open when it comes to creating widgets, according to some notes on Strange Attractor one from one of the many events in London this week that I wish I was at:

Netvibes now introducing a universal widget API. If you build a Netvibes widget you’ll be able to make it available on every widget platform including Mac Dashboard, Google… and will try iPhone too.

Widgets and microformats are such an exciting area of creative development on the web. I’m looking at some ways of exploring the possibilities more fully with colleagues in the coming months.

: : BTW: I’m now using Netvibes as a homepage after a client recommended it to me very strongly – it’s a superb homepage even though I get my RSS feeds though Google Reader, I love having Flickr, Digg, Technorati and Del.icio.us all there and ready to roll. I know I’m not using the half f the potential of this brilliant service but even as a base it’s excellent.
