Secret rulers of the media world meet to plot their response to social media

You can hear the mwah-ha-ha-ha-ing all the way from Monaco can’t you?

In line with some advice from the author of the highly successful Big Lorry Blog I am going broadening this blog’s appeal for one day only to happy-go-lucky conspiracy theorists.

Obviously, the Monaco Media Forum (what do you mean you haven’t heard of it, it’s the Davos of the media set!) isn’t that secret as they have let Kevin Anderson in there and he’s blogging about the bits they will let him talk about on Media Guardian’s Organgrinder.

But checking out the event’s website, with its Star Wars titles-like scrolling roll call of big influential media moguls and royals…

…and the image of large red diamonds invading a marina…

…and you can’t resist indulging in a little “secret rulers of the world” type paranoia can you….

But seriously, it sounds like most of what is being discussed is stuff readers of this blog will already know about according to Mr Anderson:

… generally [discussion is about] video has been liberated from TV, from broadcast networks. That is clear from the panel and nothing revolutionary. Go to any of these conferences, and what you see is a struggle between over rights. In the past, the distribution system was closed, and before the advent of the video recorder, very ephemeral. Now, people are time shifting and place shifting.

: : In keeping with the conspiracy theory theme for the post, the first 15 seconds of this video are very funny…

  1. Sneaky way to hint for an invitation, but OK, you’re in. Come join us for the next one.
The strength of the MMF, as my scruffy blogging friend Kevin Anderson will agree, is the mix that we were able to bring into the MMF… mix of backgrounds, media sectors, perspectives. From TMM CEOs and new wave technology pushers to freedom of the press activists and government image builders, from 5 continents, we strive to bring together the best & the brightest from these areas and more to Monaco for the debates.
This first, prototype edition was a blast for the participants as well as for me and the team, and we’re going to make it even better and more participatory for the 2007 edition. Trust you’ll be there. Drop me a line.

  2. Heh heh – thanks, Jeb. It does sound like a great event. Hope you manage to book a hollowed out volcano for 2007 though… :-)
