It’s all fun and games and then someone loses their reputation…
The BBC is reporting that they are investigating the case of the blog put up by someone who says they were sold a broken laptop on eBay (as reported on Open last week).
"We have got an allegation of improper use of public electronic communications network that was reported to us on 29 May in person at Fulham police station… The allegation follows from a civil dispute.No arrests have been made and inquiries continue."
The blog has had almost three quarter of a million hits so far and the guy’s name in Google now turns up 149 returns (soon to rise as the investigation keeps the story alive).
The man’s sudden fame is like the dark mirror image of Guy Goma’s recent unwitting celebrity: the genie’s out of the bottle now, no going back. I guess we’ll all be watching with great interest how this case turns out.
