More on the global ambitions of the Times

Reuters has more on the plans at the Times to make it a global media brand.

It says that the London based paper is:

  • Looking to gain 10,000 new readers in the US
  • Going to supply the world’s biggest newspaper with content
  • Planning further deals to expand its presence around the world

Apparently, its editor Robert Thomson sees the a gap in the US market for quality coverage of foreign news:

"Many of the great papers in the U.S. that had networks of correspondents have trimmed them at a time when U.S. interest in the outside world is increasing… This provides an opportunity, particularly in a global city like New York, for an alternative supply of high quality foreign coverage."

  1. Newspapers just can’t get enough of this ‘Noo Meejar’ [New Media for Google!]

It seems today’s newspapers have gone over-board on new media. Drew B posts about the FT devoting “millions” of pages to social media. He highlights his favourite article here. Meanwhile, over at the Social Media Report blog (that’s Drew again),
