Future of video marketing: Where the hell is Matt?

I know, I know, it is another YouTube story, but this one is also a first class marketing case study, so I’m on topic and standing by it.

A while back a guy called Matt traveled round the world and filmed a short sequence of himself dancing in each of the dozens of countries he visited. When he got back he spliced all the sequences together and set it to the feel-good 90s dance track “Sweet Lullaby” by Deep Forest. And it worked, it really worked.

So then chewing gum company Stride Gum saw the video and sposnored him to do a second trip. The second video has racked up c. 2.3 million views since it was posted at the end of June.

Stride is a brand apparently very happy to play in the co-creation space with its customers (other marketing ploys include a competition for people to come up with the best long-lasting stunt for the company).

: : S-s-s-s-something for the bloggers: I blogged this with the new Windows Live Writer which I have immediately fallen for in a big way. Big up Microsoft for producing a great bit of free software. Best aspect is real WYSIWYG editing – as you write your post you’re seeing what the actual post looks that will be published will look like. Very satisfying and intuitive to use.
