US politicos found own social networking service

Top US political strategists from both the Democratic and Republican parties have come together to create a social network called HotSoup according to paidcontent.org.

Seems like an interesting idea in theory but who on earth needs another social networking service?

See TechCrunch’s report that social networking site Bebo (tipped to overtake MySpace in the UK in the next couple of months) has turned down a US $550 million takeover offer, which has prompted BusinessWeek in turn to call social network business a bubble.

I agree. Things are getting flakey out there. Entrepreneurs would be better off thinking about what social networks mean, and the opportunities the networked world will present rather than trying to build me too offers and diving into ever decreasing niches…
