Blogs in editorial meetings

Drew B points to another useful example of blogs influencing the media – this time on NBC in the US…

The influence of blogs on traditional media is one of the most powerful arguments for organisations to take social media seriously.

It may not be the whole story, blogs, podcasts and Wikis are powerful media in their own right, but for many people, just trying to get their heads around the new media realities that are emerging, it is an easy-to-grasp argument for further research and even engagement.

Influence on mainstream media is an important issue in itself, but also a safe and uncomplicated piece of evidence that means they can justify investing time and budget in this area to others in their organisation without having to take them through Friedman‘s flat-world theories and how we are moving from an industrial media to a networked community, for instance.
