The rise of Digg continues – becomes top 500 website

Digg

Digg has become one the top 500 websites in terms of traffic. I’m sure only a month or two back it was just int he top 1,000. As this Digg post notes, the top 500 websites on the web account for 45% of all traffic.

Regular readers and anyone who sits within earshot of me will know all about my fascination with Digg (see below for a list of recent Open posts on Digg). When, oh when, will someone mash-up Digg and the BBC News? Ah me, if only I were a proper geek who could write code and stuff…

But seriously, folks, Digg is a new media phenomenon that is worth watching. Not only as a piece of influential attention-grabbing media in itself but also for the implications of an editor-less, community led news service.
