Outlook’s 2006 feeding frenzy

Connected media will get another shunt forward in 2006: the next version of Microsoft Office (launching in the middle of the year) will include RSS feeds, according to its product manager’s blog (via Shel Holtz).

As the new version of Office gets bought by businesses (probably 2007 before a whole load of them do, seeing as lots of people are only just getting round to installing Office 2003), more and more knowledge workers will have easier access to blog and podcast feeds as part of their everyday working life.

There’s a lot of geek-love being lavished on applications such as Writely and other web-based word processor and Outlook replacement type programes, but
Microsoft Outlook is likely to remain at the heart of the typical
business user’s working life for quite a while yet.

So good news for RSS and blog-dom in general, then – onward to the mainstream…
